Privacy Policy for SnapSum

SnapSum ("the App") is developed and operated by an independent developer ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the App collects, why, and how it's used. SnapSum does not require you to create an account, and we do not collect your name, email address, or any other personally-identifying information.

1. Information We Collect

a) Anonymous Device Identifier

On first launch, the App generates a random identifier (a UUID) stored only on your device. It is not linked to your name, email, or Google account. We use it to:

• Track your daily free-summary quota
• Match a rewarded-ad completion to your device so you receive the unlocked summary/quiz

If you uninstall the App, this identifier and everything tied to it on our servers becomes orphaned and is not linked to any new identifier created on reinstall.

b) YouTube Video Content You Choose to Summarize

When you paste a YouTube video or playlist link, the App fetches that video's publicly available captions/transcript and sends them — along with the video title, channel name, and duration — to our backend, which uses Google's Gemini API to generate a summary, quiz, or chat response. We do not download or process video/audio files, only text captions.

We do not access your YouTube account, browsing history, or any other YouTube data beyond the specific video link you provide.

c) Usage Data

Our backend stores, against your anonymous device identifier:

• Number of summaries/quizzes/chat messages generated per day (for free-quota enforcement)
• The summaries themselves (so quiz/chat features can reference the same video later in your session)

This data is stored on Supabase (our backend hosting provider) and is not sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes.

d) Locally-Stored Data (Never Leaves Your Device)

The following stays only on your device and is never transmitted to us:

• Your summary history (for instant re-opening, offline)
• Your daily-use streak
• Your language and Lecture Mode preferences
• Whether you've subscribed to Premium

Clearing the App's data or uninstalling it permanently deletes all of this.

e) Advertising (Google AdMob)

SnapSum is free to use and shows ads via Google AdMob (banner, interstitial, rewarded, native, and app-open ad formats) unless you subscribe to Premium. AdMob may collect advertising identifiers, IP address, and device information to serve and measure ads, and may use this data for ad personalization depending on your Android ad settings. This data collection is governed by Google's own privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

You can opt out of personalized ads in your device's Google settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads).

f) Subscriptions (Google Play Billing)

If you purchase SnapSum Premium, the transaction is processed entirely by Google Play Billing. We do not see or store your payment card details — Google handles billing, refunds, and subscription management directly.

2. Third-Party Services We Use

• Google Gemini API — processes video captions to generate summaries/quizzes/chat answers.
• Supabase — hosts our backend (database and serverless functions).
• Google AdMob — serves ads.
• Google Play Billing — processes Premium subscription payments.

Each of these providers processes data under their own privacy policies in addition to this one.

3. Children's Privacy

SnapSum is intended for college students and competitive-exam aspirants and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

4. Data Retention & Deletion

• Locally-stored data (history, streak, settings) is deleted the moment you uninstall the App or clear its storage from Android Settings.
• To request deletion of server-side usage data tied to your device identifier, contact us at the email below describing your request — we'll locate and delete matching records.

5. Security

We use industry-standard practices (HTTPS for all network calls, no plaintext storage of credentials) to protect data in transit and at rest. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the App evolves (e.g., when real Play Billing receipt verification or new features ship). Material changes will update the "Last updated" date above.
